You win this round, asian bootleg eBay seller

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012 at 8:34 pm

I’m trying to buy 2 rare Kotobukiya Bishoujo statues. The last 2 I’m missing.

Unfortunately, it seems most all sellers have decided not to ship to Canada. Apparently, packages shipped to Canada are often lost and the eBay sellers from the US need to refund the money to the buyer in this scenario. Word is catching on to everyone…and it now seems that 1 out of 10 sellers will ship something expensive internationally.

So, when there are 9 of the same item that will only be sold in the US, I can’t buy it.
And when there’s that ONE (out of 10) item that will ship to Canada, I’m bidding against all the other Canadians. So prices go WAY up.

Anyways, I ended up buying a rather expensive statue ($245), somewhat impulsively, given the situation described above. I saw it go online and within 5 minutes, purchased it. I looked at the other guy’s record first though (97%…which is low for eBay but not bad), I looked at the other things he sold and the other feedback. I was decently confident with this seller, so I purchased the item. with $30 shipping, it came out to $275.

2 weeks later, I get my package. And it’s opened. Despite saying it’s brand new in the description.
I don’t really mind this though, as long as the item is in good shape. It’s a rare item, so I’ll forgive it being open. What I can’t forgive is this painting issue:

One of the bracelets is silver, where it should be gold. I talked to Kotobukiya, the manufacturer and they did confirm it was not a legitimate product based on the UPC on the box, and that the “exclusive” sticker on the box was fake (but well done). It’s unfortunate because everything else is perfect quality. I imagine that what I received was a legitimate, but defective product, not a bootleg product.

Anyways, I complained to the seller:

The item I purchased is bootleg (not legitimate). I have contacted Kotobukiya to confirm this. Also, your item was not described correctly. It explains the items is new, unopened but the box was opened when I received it. I demand a refund and I will return this item as per the return policy stated on your product page.

If you do not comply, I will inform eBay and PayPal of your bootlegged product, dispute the charge, and provide you a negative feedback.

oh im so sorry.
I mistake condition.actually I named mint but I mistook for new instead of used.
im so sorry for bothering you.
of couse I refund money.

but I would like to inquiry you.
how much do you buy this item?

this item is actually used.so its my mistake.
but if this item is used condition, its very rare item.
I want you to buy this item for 150$

how about it?

I was thinking to myself: what does this mean? Does it mean he expected me to keep the product, while I get my refund, and that he wanted to buy it for $150? In that sense, I could have made a $150 profit. Due to the lack of clarify in the email though, I didn’t want to take the chance…that he meant “I will refund $150 of your money back” because if I agreed, it would hold and I’d be screwed $125. So I clearly wrote:

I will return the item when you refund the price I paid: 245 + 30 (shipping) = $275 Total

– Warren

ok Im so sorry. Its mean of couse for you to get uncomfortabale.
im sorry again.
I try not to do such thing.

Ill pay you immedately.

– sietoron20012012

Anyways, he did seem pretty sincere about it though I bet he knew he was trying to rip me off. He probably assumed I wouldn’t notice or care and then we’d both be happy. Unfortunately, I need this statue for my website/photography so I want a legit version.

I did get my refund immediately but lose the shipping cost it will take to return the item ($40). Sigh.

I would have/could have asked for more money but I didn’t really want to push my luck. To be honest, if he didn’t pay me, there’s nothing I can really do. I can disupute it was eBay or Paypal or whatever…but these asians don’t care/won’t get affected. They close shop and re-open shop with a different name a day later. The guy only had 33-person rating on eBay so it wasn’t like he was established. I’m actually pretty pleased to get my $275 back, even if I still had to pay $40 for nothing. Better to cut my losses.

I’m done with this way of things. I talked to some co-workers. I set up this service (http://cbiusa.com/) in which I ship packages to Niagara Falls, NY. A company keeps the packages and then I can go pick them up for $6 per package. The real issue is driving to Niagara Falls (1.5 hour drive, 3 hours there and back) and the gas it cost. Still, the discount I get for not having to compete with all these damn Canadian buyers makes up for the difference.

So in 2 weeks or so, I’ll go to the US one weekend to pick up my package :) It’s about $200 less than other competing offers have been so I’m quite happy :) Once I get that, I’m only missing one statue and I got them all! ^______________________^

DSLR Camera

Thursday, July 12th, 2012 at 11:40 pm

I know I’ve been wanting to buy a camera for a while. For about 7 months now…
I did a lot of research on a point-and-shoot Canon G12 / G1X…only to realize that it simply wouldn’t do the job I’d like.

So I decided on a DSLR…but then got a little intimidated with everything I have to research in order to buy one.
Well, I’ve been doing some research…and I’ve figured out what camera body I want:

Canon EOS Rebel T3i w/ 18-55mm IS Lens Kit for $700 at Best Buy.
I have $550 in Best Buy gift certificates so I’ll only be paying a little bit for this camera.

If the lens doesn’t do the job I want, I’m going to buy Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 for $130.

I might get the camera as early as tomorrow morning. I’ve already started setting up my photography “lab” for tomorrow. I’ll also need to go to Fabric Land to get some backdrops for my statues.

Anyways, that’s my plan :)

Hopefully I’ll get my camera and my backdrop and I’ll post some of the photos that I’ll take!

Lots of new things lately + Lion King + Disney Movies

Monday, September 19th, 2011 at 3:19 am

Bought a new monitor and external hard drive recently…..and some blu-rays

Thor & X-Men First Class Blu Rays are being delivered as we speak.

Plan to get Bridesmaids despite having not seen it yet. Enough people have said it’s good so I’ll take their word for it. Z has seen it and she vouches for it.

Got Star Fox 64 3DS the other day….beat it quite easily. It wasn’t the challenge that I remember it was, in high school. But as I read reviews, that game isn’t about survival, it’s about dominating and how much you dominate.

Getting Kirby Mass Attack tomorrow…Z wants to get the “New” Super Mario Bros. for the DS….so we’ll be getting 2 DS games tomorrow….I expect to beat, and get 100% on both. I realize now how much of a Nintendo gamer I am. I was raised that way….got into RPGs after….and never really got into FPS games, except for Counter Strike. I’m just…I’m both really good, and really enjoy Nintendo type games.

Lion King

I ordered The Lion King Diamond Edition Blu Ray from Disney on August 7 for $25…about a month and a half ago. I got 200 Disney Bonus Points with it.

AFTER I order it, they come out with The Lion King Diamond Edition Blu-ray with FREE Lithograph Offer for $25. ALSO from Disney. ARGGH !@$&%$*@#$*

I’d much rather take the Lithograph than the 200 Disney Points. It would go with my Beauty and the Beast Lithography….but I can’t cancel my Aug 7 order. =(

And now, after going to watch The Lion King in 3D tonight…they have another pre-order…get $5 off.

3 different Lion King blu ray deals! >:( So angry. I think the Lithograph is the best one tho…

So…yeah, I definitely wasn’t planning to watch Lion King in 3D. Especially since I pre-ordered the blu ray. Technically, I was paying more to watch it once in the theatres, than to own in forever on blu-ray. It seemed pointless. In the end, I was trying to take my sister-in-law to watch the movie without her troublesome kids…but she bailed on the plan. Z and I still decided to go see it. Although it was costly, I was glad we did. There’s definitely a completely different experience watching the movie in the theatre, compared to watching something at home. It just doesn’t compare. When you’re in the theatre, there’s this…focus, that you can’t get elsewhere. Z and I have instated “Movie night”. Once every 2 weeks….alternating choices. I just hope Z doesn’t pick chick flicks for me >_< On that note, I saw Friends with Benefits the other day. It was better than I thought....funny but still kinda cheesy at certain parts. Disney Movies
I thought I had more than a few Disney movies growing up. I had a select era that began with Beauty and the Beast and ended with The Lion King…(technically with Aladdin and the King of Thieves, but that was mostly purchased out of “trilogy completion” sake – though it turned out to be a really great movie). Anyways, I discovered earlier this year that my Disney Movie collection was completely dwarfed by Z’s.

FanExNO?

Friday, June 3rd, 2011 at 2:01 am

See what I did there? Instead of writing FanExpo, I wrote FanExNO, meaning that I might not go to FanExpo this year.

Shortly before FanExpo last year, I decided to make my wish list. I crossed items out after the con but basically: I got organized.

I got organized with what I want. I generally no longer hit the “Reserve or Regret” thing, in which you pre-order at cost, otherwise you risk the item being rare, marked up, and regretting not getting it when you should of. Case in point, a $240 Power Rangers Megazord which, at retail (in 93) was $50. And a $118 Dragonzord (instead of $40). And a $214 Adam Hughes Wonder Woman (instead of $80). Anyways…the point is that I generally try to avoid that mistake.

Got side tracked. Right now, I’m on the top of my game, and if you see my WTB (Want to Buy) LIST, I only have 4 things on my wish list (way at the bottom) and 3 haven’t come out yet. I’m the type of person that goes to FanExpo and does the dealer rooms more than anything else. Sure, I like the free stuff…I like the exclusives, but there’s nothing I can’t get via eBay. Basically, anything I buy will be impulsive, or not along the lines of the wish list. So while generally I go there for a purpose…to buy things, this time it seems like a money hole.

Wait, I also go to artist alley, I love commissions and prints…I love seeing talented artists. But that’s probably not enough reason for the entry free.

Anyways, I’m still debating. It’s not like I go every year…but last year I went for 3 days (usually I just do one) and I had a lot of fun. And got a lot of stuff. But this year is different.

I’ll think about it more…

Solving the mystery killed her

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 at 10:31 pm

This picture. I loved it for 10 months.

I ordered an iPhone case of it. I got it today, along with 3 other things: Kotobukiya Marvel Comics: Black Cat Bishoujo Statue, Smashing Magazine Book 1 + Book 2, and 8″ Disney Toy Story 3 Peas in a Pod Bean Bag Plush

The Peas in the Pod are so cute! This plushie, which cost about $20 including shipping, used to go for $50 to 80 to 100 right after Toy Story 3 came out. I almost bought it for $50 but thank goodness I didn’t.

Anyways…this girl…after I solved the mystery, after I found a high res. picture, I no longer care for her. It’s no longer my iPhone background as of earlier today. There was something about the mystery of her. Where she came from. The picture I had was LQ so I couldn’t see the details, it was blurry. Not knowing was part of what made her beautiful. Like I said before, regarding the beauty of the Venus de Milo, part of the beauty is the mystery. What were her arms doing? What did they look like? She’s incomplete…and people can’t figure it out which makes it nag on their minds. They think it’s beauty, they think they’re captivated by it…but it’s really just their subconscious trying to put the puzzle together. Okay, that was an over-exaggeration. Maybe there’s a little beauty.

But anyways…sadly, I’ve lost quite a bit of interest in my used-to-be mystery girl. I have a new crush: this chick.

Mari Makinami

She’s got the glasses. She pilots a giant robot. She…um…I don’t know much else except that she’s a new, awesome character from Evangelion 2.0: You Can [Not] Advance Edit: (which has some stellar animation)(which has the best animation I’ve EVER seen…EVER!). She’s taken over my iPhone wallpaper as of today. I ordered this a few days ago…

I CAN NOT wait for it to come… :D
