Tiny Tower is the new World of Warcraft

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 at 11:53 pm

Since Friday night…I’ve been playing Tiny Towers on the iPhone….

…and I’m pretty addicted.

It’s not exactly like my World of Warcraft addiction. You can play Tiny Towers while you do other stuff….
Basically, during my (2) vacation days…I spent my time playing Tiny Towers and watching One Tree Hill….instead of working on warrenshea.com….or anything else. Oops.

I promise this is temporary.

Part of it is the friends who are playing with me, who started around the same time. Damn my competitive edge. Same thing happened with Farmville. Figure out how to beat people, surpass them despite their early advantage…and then move on to something else :)

OH MAN. I have my Connect 4 Finals tomorrow. 32 person tournament. I hope to win. I hope to play an amazing match. You can’t have an amazing match with only 1 person, which is why I dislike playing the computer…especially when the computer sucks. I hope to play a few skilled people tomorrow for warm up tomorrow :) It won’t be easy but I hope I can win.

Source Control? No thanks.

I prefer to live life DANGEROUSLY.

I’ve never been a fan of source control, checking things in and out, locked files, merging files, etc. I always found it more tedious than beneficial. After all, I make my own backups during project milestones. And I was one of the 5 or so developers that didn’t properly use Source Control at my work when they tried to implement it, and if one person doesn’t use it, the whole thing crashes down. LOL so basically, I ruined it for everyone else /flex. And no, I don’t feel bad, our team still got along great without it.

I know I’m playing devil’s advocate here. I know Source Control is good. There are few drawbacks and using a few seconds here and there can save hours if something goes wrong.

I think it’s basically just that I’m arrogant, so arrogant in fact that I don’t believe I’d ever make such ridiculous mistakes. After all, I’m perfect. Or at least close to it. Or…more accurately I just try to be. But I guess WE ALL make mistakes…..and when those mistakes happen (as they have in the past), I won’t be ready cuz I’m too arrogant to have used Source Control. Sorry, that was some kind of cyclical argument. Basically, I admit I’m flawed and my arrogance is one of my downfalls.

I was in a meeting last Friday and wrote down “Source Control” and “Arrogance” (beside my doodle of Cyclops from the X-Men) I guess as something to blog about. So here it is. :/

4 Web Projects now? SAY WAH?!?T?!!

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 at 2:20 am

I’ve been motivated again. Sorta. Another web developer around me has drive. Now, usually I’m highly motivated by competitiveness. I can already feel that it’s not as true this time….the gap in skill is too great (that’s not meant to be offensive). However, the person’s drive as well as taking action on improving has inspired me to do the same.

I think 1 or 2 months ago, I was still struggling with warrenshea.com. I had my secret project, the one related to a specific toy line, on hold because though I wanted to do it, I wanted to finish warrenshea.com first.

But sometime since then, I’ve become motivated again and have two more sites I wanna do. Unfortunately, they’re both secret for now.

So I have 4 projects
warrenshea.com – TO FINISH
[toy company][toyline].com – TO START
[project anime] – TO START
[project internet meme] – TO START (just came up with this today)

Timeline wise,
warrenshea.com – 1 month MAX
[toy company][toyline].com – 2 months
[project internet meme] – 2 months
[project anime] – 8 months

I think I’ll do things in this order. Maybe swap [toy company][toyline].com and [project internet meme].

Anyways, I’m motivated for the first time in a long while. NO MOAR GOING OUT. MUST DEV. RAWR.

It’s like describing every freelance web project I’ve ever worked on

If you want something produced/designed/created/built you can only have something done:

– Masterfully
– For Cheap
– Quickly

But you can only pick 2, you will never get all three.

This is a quote I read somewhere….I just wanted to post it because I found it very true in most cases….not always true though.
I wanted to remember it…so I just thought I’d post it :) My blog is my notebook/journal/diary

20~ year mystery……SOLVED!

My co-workers were discussing movies today and they happen to be discussing The Goonies. For some reason, something triggered in my memory about a movie I saw on TV once with an epic snowball castlee and fight. I must have seen it when I was 10 or something, the memory is so weak but I remember 2 things: A slide from the inside to the outside of the fort. And ink inside a snowball. I asked them if these 2 memories were familiar to them at all, as they’re movie buffs. It wasn’t.

But we started to Google “Epic snowball fight movie” and stuff like that. Eventually, after some digging, we found the movie that I was remembering.

La guerre des tuques (1984)
(The Dog That Stopped The War)

No wonder I had no idea what the movie was. It’s a French Canadian movie from 1984. And…”The Dog That Stopped The War” was the English title translation. So. WTF.

It’s about an epic snowball fight and a dog that dies during it that causes both sides of the war to cease fire.

Anyways, it was a great revelation that day. The internet is a great place, it’d be impossible to have solved this mystery so quickly without it. I definitely have a little more piece of mind, when something like this is settled in my head :D
