One Piece art

Sunday, June 30th, 2013 at 9:29 pm

So I just started reading One Piece. I know, I’m two thousand and late….
I’m at Chapter 227 right now, about 1/3 done. It’s pretty entertaining. There are quite a few parts that (actually) make me LOL and I love that. The comedy in this manga is totally my styles.

Came across a piece of line art while reading the chapters. I liked it and I started to color it for sh!ts n giggles. I’m occasionally doing it when I’m bored or watching something…

Just thought I’d put my progress so far…

Original

(Note: There’s quite a bit of image degradation it)

Flats (not final colors)

Cleaned Line Art with Flats (not final colors)

Keep in mind that the purpose of flats is to create an aliased (note: NOT anti-aliased) method of separating colors. It makes it easier to select them for modification. (I actually have professional freelance experience making flats…for the Street Fighter comic :D sry – I did like, 3/100000000 pages and that’s honestly one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in my life ;P so I like bringing it up…)

Edit: 4 hours later, 1:42AM

Adding Depth to the image! (not final colors)

Depth, no outline

It’s really coming along well! I’m so happy with the progress so far! I don’t wanna sleep, I wanna keep working on this!! Safe to say, I’ll probably be doing this all day tomorrow :)

Edit: 2:53AM

Playing around with the layers

Probably post the PSD at some point if you’re curious :D

Having. SO MUCH FUN. Maybe I should do this art thing again, and soon :D

Edit: Monday 3:02PM (the next day) – 7 hours after last night

Final – No outline

Final V1 (I’m done – sure I could tweak more – but I don’t want to, I need to do something else for my sanity)

V1 PSD [26MB], if you’re curious :D

One of many Addictions: Video Game Guide Books

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011 at 3:16 am

I won’t lie. I have a weak willpower. It’s the thing that makes me think “I’ll just have a little Bacon on that Double Cheeseburger” instead of “Salad is the way to go”.
I’m not weak willed but I’ve definitely got a highly addictive personality.

I’ve collected Books (Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes), Comics (16 large boxes, having collected comics for over 10 years), Manga (DBZ, Naruto, Death Note, Neon Genesis Evangelion), Magazines (PSN, Wizard), Artbooks (maybe I’ll do another post on these), Toys (RAH DX Gundam Seed toys, Adam Hughes DC Statues, Jim Lee’s DC Universe Online Statues, and most recently Marvel and DC’s Kotobukiya line) and finally: Video Game Guides.

Now, that’s not to say I buy them all. No, far from it. But when I see a guide to a game that I know I might play, as opposed to one I do or have played, I have to have it. Even more so, if there’s a collector’s edition: I have to have it. And I have to have it new. Yes, I’m weak like that.

Today, I had some time to kill so I went to Indigo. A hundred and something dollars later, I have these 3 books:

My reasoning for each book:
Batman Arkham City Collector’s Edition Guide because: I have the Batman: Arkham Asylum Guide and EVENTUALLY, I plan to play this game.
Zelda: Skyward Sword Collector’s Edition Guide because: Given the buzz around the game, maybe eventually I’ll play it. Also, I have another guide like it….(see below)
And finally a Super Mario 3D Land Guide because: I don’t know, I’ve finished the game and gotten all the gold medals…there’s very little this guide can tell me.
(in fact, after reading the guide, I realize I’m not done the game..I have 4/5 stars. The last star involves reaching the top of EVERY flagpole AND beating every level with Luigi…currently, after 1 day, I’m on World 3…again >_<). Anyways, I'm stupid in the way of buying guidebooks and games. Even worse, Collector's Editions always really screw me over. I have a Collector's Edition DC Universe Online [PC], BlazBlue [PS3], Gran Turismo 5 [PS3], Catherine [PS3], Marvel VS Capcom 3 [PS3], Street Fighter 4 [PS3]....AND a Final Fantasy XIII [PS3] and Metal Gear Solid 4 [PS3]....and those last two both remain sealed still -_-; Another example of my addiction:

Well, I have 2 regular Zelda Guides because Z and I both got one before we moved in together. We have two Twilight Princesses [Wii] and two Wii’s too :) But one of the guides is still shrink wrapped.
And then I have the Collector’s Edition Guide because….well, I wanted that one over the regular one. I just HAD to have it, despite 98% of the content being the same probably. Also, the Collector’s Edition Guide is still shrink wrapped too! (Well, why use that when I have a regular guide to “destroy”).

I have tons of Video game Guidebooks, many for games that don’t need one or of which I’ve never/rarely used:
Street Fighter IV, Smash Bros Brawl? Why would I need fighting game guides?

Games I’ve never played, but have guides for: Kingdom Hearts II, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Dissidia: Final Fantasy

Games I’ve only played for a moment, but got distracted: Super Paper Mario, Metal Gear Solid 3, Zelda: Major’s Mask, Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus, Batman: Arkham Asylum

I will admit that I love guidebooks, even if I don’t use them really. I love looking through them, looking at the art (same reason I buy artbooks), looking at the strategies, even if I may never use them.

I don’t regret buying these guides, but it does seem a bit unnecessary some times. Still, who’s to say what games I could be playing in the future. I played 5 year old New Super Mario Bros. [DS] just last month, I played 10 year old Zelda: Ocarina of Time [N64/3DS] last/this year.

I would much rather buy the guide new, when it’s out than buy an old, damaged guide for a high price. Seriously, a New/Like New Majora’s Mask guide is IMPOSSIBLE to find. Even old beat up guides range from like, $60 to $200. Ridiculous. I was able to get 1 off ebay in horrid condition for $30ish and another one from my local vintage gamestore for a bit more than cover price (that was like finding gold, seriously).

I just wanted to write about game guides, since I bought 3 of them today….and since I haven’t blogged in a while. ANY TYPE OF INSPIRATION WILL DO.

Zelda in 3D – How the 3DS works?

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011 at 1:50 am

Wow. I did not think this would work.

To explain: Basically, the way the 3DS works is that you must be a certain distance away from the screen to see the 3D. Also, each of your eyes receive a different sensory input. You’re looking at the same screen, but it’s giving off different lights. Anyways, when you look at the screen, from afar, your eyes immediately go cross eyed to “match” the images. And thus, you get one of those 3D puzzles in which you cross your eyes to solve it.

The images above are an example of this. However, in the image above, you really have to cross your eyes a lot to see the 3D. Obviously your monitor, and my skill, prevent me from doing a better job. But if you cross your eyes on the image above, you should see the 3D.

I will get a better screenshot (or picture). This was just testing the theory out…and I’m a bit surprised, but it works. It’s the fundamental process that allows 3D.

I beat Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the 3DS today. I spent about 5 or 6 days playing the game, just like last time but my play time must have been a lot shorter. It was faster as in the sense that I wasn’t puzzled by the puzzled, the fights were easier, and I wasn’t going after all the Gold Skulltula tokens. I finished the game with 72, not bad w/o and guide. I don’t really think I wanna go back for them, not much point, despite being a completest. I’m more interested in Master Quest, but I promise to take my time with that. Need to focus back on real life again.

I leave you with an interesting read: Ocarina of Time 3D: Development Staff. It’s a 6 part story regarding the development of the game….as a developer, it was quite interesting…..tho I didn’t read it all…maybe tomorrow.

Solving the mystery killed her

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 at 10:31 pm

This picture. I loved it for 10 months.

I ordered an iPhone case of it. I got it today, along with 3 other things: Kotobukiya Marvel Comics: Black Cat Bishoujo Statue, Smashing Magazine Book 1 + Book 2, and 8″ Disney Toy Story 3 Peas in a Pod Bean Bag Plush

The Peas in the Pod are so cute! This plushie, which cost about $20 including shipping, used to go for $50 to 80 to 100 right after Toy Story 3 came out. I almost bought it for $50 but thank goodness I didn’t.

Anyways…this girl…after I solved the mystery, after I found a high res. picture, I no longer care for her. It’s no longer my iPhone background as of earlier today. There was something about the mystery of her. Where she came from. The picture I had was LQ so I couldn’t see the details, it was blurry. Not knowing was part of what made her beautiful. Like I said before, regarding the beauty of the Venus de Milo, part of the beauty is the mystery. What were her arms doing? What did they look like? She’s incomplete…and people can’t figure it out which makes it nag on their minds. They think it’s beauty, they think they’re captivated by it…but it’s really just their subconscious trying to put the puzzle together. Okay, that was an over-exaggeration. Maybe there’s a little beauty.

But anyways…sadly, I’ve lost quite a bit of interest in my used-to-be mystery girl. I have a new crush: this chick.

Mari Makinami

She’s got the glasses. She pilots a giant robot. She…um…I don’t know much else except that she’s a new, awesome character from Evangelion 2.0: You Can [Not] Advance Edit: (which has some stellar animation)(which has the best animation I’ve EVER seen…EVER!). She’s taken over my iPhone wallpaper as of today. I ordered this a few days ago…

I CAN NOT wait for it to come… :D

10 month mystery……SOLVED!

Sunday, April 17th, 2011 at 3:38 pm

In one of my somewhat regular trips of Pacific Mall, I found myself awe-struck walking by a few pictures on the wall of a tattoo shop. I took some pictures of those pics in hopes of finding out where the pictures came from.

I couldn’t find out anything these pictures. Googling descriptive words was less than useless. A few weeks later, I went back to Pacific Mall but the pictures were moved to the inside of the tattoo shop…and I was too intimidated to go and ask them :P

I eventually made the first pic (above) my iPhone background and it’s been that picture for months now. I absolutely love it.

Months and months pass bringing us to now. I went to a computer store yesterday and noticed the 2nd picture (above) on the back of an iPhone case. I originally thought the pictures above were originals, made by the artist in the tattoo shop or something so seeing one of the pictures on an iPhone case was a bit shocking. I purchased the $4 iPhone case, despite that I wouldn’t use it, because I wanted to see if I could do any research on it. Maybe there was a signature on the case, maybe there was SOMETHING. There wasn’t.

But, I was able to google “Tattoo girl iphone case” into Google and come up with a whole mess of iPhone cases with this kind of art. I taxed my online search capabilities to their limit, searching for hours trying to find out more. Eventually, I came across a site (I’m talking about seeing 40 different “buy iphone case” sites before stumbling on to this one) that said “Mithra Tattoo iPhone Case“. Which then, led me to google Mithra and Mithra tattoo…which brought me to here:

Mithra Tattoo Canada

Finally, I had found what I was looking for. HQ Posters, a huge selection of stuff by the artist, “Little White“. I was pretty happy and proud with myself…Mission: Complete!

Anyways, I’m quite pleased with everything, finally finding the artist of a random picture I saw 10 months ago. I finally have a good quality, no reflection picture of the pic I wanted. I’m very tempted to buy some posters, only $17…but don’t really know where I could put them :( Maybe I’ll just buy them for later ;)
