How to Train Your Dragon – Review

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010 at 2:56 am

I’ve seen this movie 3 times, once in theaters in 3D and twice on my newly purchased blu-ray. I watched it yesterday once…and I couldn’t get the music out of my head all day today (well, I was listening to the soundtrack at work all day) so I decided to watch it again.

I gotta say, I really love this movie.

I love the plot, the cute dragons (this movie kinda reminds me of an Ash/Pikachu combo), but I really love the music. It fits the movie so well…I liked these songs (below), and put them on the site if for no one’s benefit but my own (as I know I’m going to be listening to this @ work tomorrow). I suggest you give them a try, it takes a bit sometimes for the song to pick up…it’s also probably better if you’ve seen the movie first…

Forbidden Friendship

Test Drive

Romantic Flight

Coming Back Around

When I go over good movies, I basically rate them on what they did wrong over what they did right. I mean, if it’s a great movie but I didn’t like one thing or there was a plot hole, I’d detract from my overall score…but I can’t find anything wrong with this movie…
I’ve only seen Toy Story 3 once in theatres and a couple of times elsewhere but I can’t really find a flaw in that movie. It’s especially emotionally overwhelming at some points which knock it up a few notches.

While How to Train Your Dragon doesn’t have “emotionally overwhelming” points, there are some really emotional, awesome moments…and if you know me, I love movies that can affect you.

warrenshea.com rates – How to Train Your Dragon – 10/10!

Better icons soon…it’s just so late and they didn’t come out as I planned (they’re more fugly than I thought they’d be).

Hikaru no Go VS Death Note

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 at 3:35 am

Going to have to break my 450 px width rule… (this post won’t work on my naruto theme). Use the GMAIL theme.
Death Note Spoilers ahead – but who hasn’t seen Death Note?
I tried to keep Hikaru no Go spoilers to a minimum.

Now, onto my….

HIKARU NO GO VS DEATH NOTE
Comparison Chart
Similarities

All characters designed by Takeshi Obata

All characters designed by Takeshi Obata

Gifted player, Shindou Hikaru in a coming of age story

Gifted human, Yagami Light in a coming of the age of Kira story

Talented Rival, Touya Akira – An angry obsession towards Shindou Hikaru

Talented Rival, L – A strange obsession towards Yagami Light

Two people of equal genius. Two. (oh, it’s already written in the subs)

Two people of equal genius. Two.

Sai – An unseen partner, a ghost from a past life

Ryuk – An unseen partner, a death god from another realm

Go – a game of strategy involving deep thinking, planning, deception, and manipulation

Death Note – a cat and mouse game involving deep thinking, planning, deception, and manipulation

Go – Requires a Go board and played utilizing a person’s hand to place Go peices

Hikaru – means “Light” or “Radiance” (masculine form) – FYI feminine form is Hikari

Light – means “Light”

Touya’s father has a heartattack collapses before facing Sai

Light’s father has a heartattack before seeing Ryuk (this one is a stretch…as the 2 incidents are unrelated)

Hikaru’s kinda mean to Akari

Light’s kinda mean to Misa. To put the image in context, this is exactly what Light does.
Differences

Shindou Hikaru initially talks to Sai. Others think he’s crazy.

Yagami Light never noticably talks to Ryuk. He remains sane to others.

Not a single death occurs. Well, one guy sorta dies. And man, is it sad… :””'(

Lots of people die. Lots.

Shindou Hikaru – unlimited potential, a bright “radiant” future

Yagami Light – dies

Hikaru no Go – 75 episodes + 1 movie of anime, 23 volumes of manga

Death Note – 37 episodes + some movies and live action stuff, 12 volumes of manga

Akari – Cute girl, good intentions, you hope they end up together.

Misa – Cute girl, good intentions, Kira wants to kill her.

I gotta say, it was both fun and tedious and time consuming getting the screen grabs. I’m VERY proud of some of the shots I gathered, perfectly capturing my notes which I wrote first. It really takes someone who watches stuff over and over to be able to accurately pinpoint key lines/saying…I knew exactly what shot I wanted for most of these comparisons and a lot of them were easy to get. /pat myself on the back.

In my Hikaru no Go VS Death Note battle….I must say I definitely enjoyed Hikaru no Go more. Between Hikaru no Go, Gundam Seed and Initial D (my 3 favourite animes, overall), I think Hikaru no Go might be the top. Might be. The other 2 are high too….I think my second tier of favourite animes would include: Death Note, Get Backers, Clannad, Azumanga Daioh, Naruto, Prince of Tennis. Naruto was initially great but I’m really feeling “meh” for Part II. PoT is great but there’s not much substance. Death Note was great but I initially found the second half pretty weak, much like Get Backers. Though reading Death Note manga kinda changed the second half. Clannad was great, the best parts were the second half of After Story…that’s when it really hit it’s perfection. Azumanga Daioh was fun all around.

Anyways. Simply based on what I enjoyed more overall,

Hikaru no Go is the winner!

Smallville S10 E04 – REVIEW – EPIC of EPICNESS

Monday, October 18th, 2010 at 1:05 am

****Spoiler Alert****

WOWOWOWOWOWOWowowow I can’t even count off the top of my head how many awesome things happened this episode. Usually in every episode, there’s 1 or 2 interesting things. This season, every episode is cramming in 3 or 4 (because this is their last season). They’re fitting in SO MUCH in this 10th season, it’s ridiculous. Like, you can’t have every episode of a show like this….or it becomes Heroes, all cliffhanger endings until they aren’t shocking anymore…..and no plot behind it to back it up and it just flops.

But with Smallville, there’s 10 years of history…

EPICLY AWESOME THINGS:
1. Reappearance of Lana Lang (S01E01), if only in a Flashback
2. Reappearance of Chloe Sullivan, again…just a flashback.
3. Brainiac (James Marsters), villain of season 8, returning O_O
4. Giving closure to Clark’s father’s death.
5. The future: Superman on the newspaper
6. The future: Lois and Clark together
7. The future: Future Clark Kent, glasses and all.
8. The future: so many little easter eggs on the whole Superman thing
9. Lois and Clark declaring their love for each other
10. Green Arrow/Oliver Queen (Justin Hartly) outing himself as Green Arrow
11. Lois and Clark dancing at the end, Clark flying….because he’s with Lois

11 EPICLY AWESOME THINGS all in one episode (that I can think of right now). I have been waiting 10 years for some of these things…and it all paid off so beautifully. BEST. EPISODE. OF. SMALLVILLE. EVER. EVER.

Ah…my heart just melted watching Clark float off the ground as he danced with Lois. I fought back tears a couple times during the episode when Clark was at his father’s gravestone, saying goodbye. And also at the end…Clark’s had an issue with flying for 10 years. He can’t get it. It’s a feat that, if forced, becomes impossible to accomplish. And then at the end of the episode, he and Lois just…man, you can totally see why their love is epic and spans like, 100 years on continuity. Anyways…Clark lets his doubts and fears wash away and his dance with Lois….she’s the key! The key to his flying. Like they say those things about being in love makes you feel like you’re flying or whatever….but they totally like, showed it! ARGH. I KNOW IT SOUNDS CHEESY….but man, it totally worked on me. I was completely touched…

Lois and Clark. I could really see how perfect they are for each other this episode.

Man, it’s like, 25 minutes after I watched the episode and it has still taken my breath away. I’m just….so emotional! *fans himself*

/going to buy a skirt cuz this post was written by a 10 yr old girl…named Wareena

Some changes for warrenshea(.com)

Sunday, October 17th, 2010 at 9:44 pm

I need to make some changes (in life). But I’m going to post about how I’m going to make some changes to warrenshea.com and my blog instead.

I’ve decided a couple things.

The first day of every month, I will post
1. What I have accomplished in the month before and
2. What I plan to accomplish in the following month.
I will try to be realistic….

The 15th day of every month, I will post a status of where I am.

The second day of every month, I will post
1. What I plan to buy/receive for that month. It will give me something to look forward to during the month.
2. What I received in the previous month that wasn’t planned.

After my vacation….I might try to do the 9-5 for work. I haven’t done that for months now…
The thing with 10-6 is that when I come in late, I feel guilty if I leave before 6…but once I start to stay past 5, I stay for a lot longer because it gets quiet and I get in my groove.

I’m hoping that with that 9-5 schedule, I can get more a standard schedule. With that, I can judge my tasks and timelines accordingly and not overwhelm myself with tasks. I’m getting too comfortable working overtime….it has become something that occurs far too often lately.

I’ve also decided not to make posting goals (ie. this month – posting 1 post/day) ever again. It led to some of my least proud posts…some that I wanted to post (like how people find me from google) but I wanted them to be written better. I do feel I redeemed some of them with my Reliable to succeed. Passionate to excel. I really like that post and the thought that went around it.

I want to re-categorize and reorganize all my (241 -_-;) posts. I don’t like the categories right now….I don’t even know what’s in Awesomesauce, Epic Fail…
