Clumsy

Thursday, September 15th, 2011 at 12:21 am

I don’t know what happened but I’ve turned into a clumsy oaf person. I used to be very careful about things…how I moved, watching my surroundings, etc. If I misstep, I’d be quick to correct.

But lately…I don’t know what happened…

I would walk straight and then suddenly veer into, and possibly graze a wall. I’ve spilled at least 2 glasses of water within the last month….one was today, which caused me to write this post. I don’t know what’s up with me and/or my body.

Clumsy…is not a trait I would like to have. I think almost everything is avoidable with proper awareness of surroundings and carefulness.

Finally getting around to a backup

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011 at 12:12 am

So I’ve been researching 3TB hard drives for a long time. I kept finding unreliable reviews for all the current 3TB drives. Eventually, I found somewhere with a lot of review – Amazon.com (duh!)

I ended up getting a 3TB WD Elements drive.

3TB – Media I: Cartoons, Anime, and Shows
2TB – Media II: Comics, Manga, Movies, Music
300GB – System: System (C:\) + Temp Files (Download, t*rr3Nt5)
500GB – My Documents: Web Design and Development Files (Photoshop, Flash, Code), My Photos, My Stuff, My Videos + Files: Pictures, Programs
750GB – BACKUP: Media that’s hard to get back, My Documents Backup
750GB – This was a sorta failed HD before so I’m not relying on it….but…this will be backup as well. Backup of my other 750 GB. I will leave it unplugged….but maybe copy files to it ever 1/2 year. I dunno, it seemed to fail, but since I did a format of it, it’s running pretty well.

I used to back things up so frequently …. but to be honest, I haven’t done a good backup in years. If my HD with my pictures failed….god, that’d be terrible. About 5 years ago, I burned everything tons of DVDs…but burned DVDs are NOT reliable. As proof – when I needed those discs, I kept getting Cyclic Redundancy (is that what it’s called? I forget…). Hard Drives are not reliable either even.

Anyways, I’ve spent about 2 nights simply moving files. “26 hours remaining” was one of my transfer windows :O
I haven’t been able to touch many of my files….and I watched a lot of tennis the last 3 days. U.S. Open Finals and Semi-finals. I’m glad I did, I had a lot of fun…Also, I was watching Prince of Tennis almost all day yesterday :D

Also, I’ve been organizing files from my past work terms, into my current file organization, for my portfolio for warrenshea.com. There are still tons of things/sites I need to get from my current place of employment…hopefully I’ll do that some time this week. Then my portfolio will really explode (it’s lacking quite a bit lately).

An odd Friday night

Lunch
I went to Remy’s for lunch and saw Jon Hamm [Don Draper of Mad Men]!!!! I didn’t notice at first, but the waiter told us….so I walked by him just to make sure…and it was definitely him :D That was pretty cool…but surprisingly, not the highlight of my day.

Just after work
I went to Eaton’s Centre to get a Kirby T-Shirt from Hot Topic…but they didn’t have any. I was sad. I went to Future Shop with Z, and Z ended up getting a Flame Red Nintendo 3DS and Nintendogs that she planned on getting…as it was released that day. Nintendogs is a pretty fun/cute game actually. We don’t have the time, space, or money for a pet. Also, I’m allergic to cats. So for someone like me, this thing…well, I don’t know if it’s the next best thing, but it’s still pretty fun.

I ended up getting a 3TB WD External HD at FutureShop. I had been planning to for a while…one can never have enough storage space! Especially with a lot of my things still on CDs and DVDs.

The Bar
Afterwards, Z and I went back to Remy’s for dinner with some co-workers and to celebrate one guy’s b-day. We had lots of shots of various things…i think Z and I both had 5 or 6 shots total…Z had 2 beers, I had 1…..with a pasta dish for each of us, our total cost was about $100 each. Yikes….but the night was still young and the b-day boy had one request left for the night….to go to a strip club cuz he’d never been.

The Strip Club
…yeah…LOLOL so after the bar, me + 3 co-workers + Z + the b-day guy’s female friend all went to Brass Rail. 4 dudes and 2 girls….at a strip club. Me going to a strip club…with my gf. Anyways, it was pretty awkward…but also fun and interesting. As expected, when women go to a strip club, they’re thinking very different things from men. “She’s a good dancer” or “She must have crazy upper body strength” or “Her legs must be really strong” were the things the females said. Guys on the other hand, were simply generally quiet, and visually pleased. No words need to be said :) Except for b-day boy….who was talking to many pretty ladies throughout the night.

The guys would basically only talk to b-day boy, asking him which girl he liked. And also, we just made fun of all the single men, that came in alone.

Anyways….that was my Friday. That strip club thing was totally unexpected, but entertaining…..definitely one of the oddest Fridays I’ve had in a while.

Update

I know I haven’t been blogging lately…a mix of sleep + work + allergies + burnout.

Sleep
I’ve been sleeping a lot this week. I think it’s to make up for last week, and my vacation. I don’t think I slept more than 8 hours a day for those 2 weeks, even on my vacation and I had some incredibly bad sleeps last week. I kept waking up at 4 or 5am, wired. I haven’t had that lately and I’m so thankful. Bad sleeps, multiple days in a row are incredibly taxing. So now, I think I’m just…well, enjoying the good sleeps. Like, making up for all the bad ones….it really feels great, I think it’s really improving both my attitude and productivity at work. That’s not to say I’m tired of late nights, it just means….it’s nice to sleep early and relax. It feels soooo good!

Work
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…these next 2 months are definitely the most exhausting and busy months in my 5 years at [Redacted]. Like, I’ve had projects where I’m busy. Busy for a week, busy for a week and a half…but I’ve got so much work on my plate, 2 giant projects launching at the end of Oct….I’ve been working like crazy at work, sometimes at home…and I just haven’t been able to look at anything else for a while. I go home and I just want to do nothing, I’m so exhausted…poor warrenshea.com

Allergies
They’ve been bad since CNE. Once my nose gets hit or affected, it takes a while to heal. It’s pretty sensitive.

Burnout
Uhh…yeah, I’m burnt. out. My vacation…should have been used to just relax, because…ugh, I feel like I’ve been working/busy forever………

This Weekend
I’m going to Eaton Centre tomorrow…to go to Hot Topic and get my Kirby Shirt >:( I wanted to order it online…but shipping for 2 shirts was $30…so expensive. X-Men: First Class Blu Ray comes out tomorrow…going to get that probably. Z might get a red 3DS tomorrow…and a game, maybe Nintendogs and Cats or whatever. I’d like to play that :D I love cutie animos. I pre-ordered Star Fox 64 over Amazon…so I won’t be getting it tomorrow…which sucks, cuz I really wanna play it…

I don’t know what I’m going to do this weekend. Organize my files 8 years of previous code/design files to get my portfolio for warrenshea.com ready? Start my new blog? Do some photography? Do some art (really itching to do some art today)? Do some work? I don’t know….but I’m hoping to be recharged for the weekend so I can start getting productive again!

Anyways…..just wanted to write something. I know it’s nothing mind blowing but I get really antsy when I haven’t written in days. I feel I owe it to my readers (and the blog) to let them know I’m alive.

You missed your calling.

I was at the CNE yesterday, in one of the buildings where they have these awesome sand castles and sculptures. There, I also saw the area where this guy balances rocks on each other. Like, not square rocks…sharp rocks…triangle rocks…it seems pretty impossible when you look at them.

It got me thinking…what if you’re spectacular at something…like, maybe better than almost everyone in the world, but you don’t know what it is. What if you go through your whole life never knowing “I’m the best, in the world, at this”.

I just thought that’d be sad. I mean, most people take careers in what they’re decent at and will bring them money. I don’t think rock balancing can bring you a lot of money…unless you’re some of the few in the world that are good at it.

Anyways…just something that crossed my mind while watching him.

I got a Venus fly trap yesterday. It’s a carnivorous plant! That’s so awesome. You need to keep it moist, but it feeds on flys…and if you need, meat. So next time we have a good steak going, I’ll chop off a small piece for it :)

Hopefully it can get rid of some of the fruit flies that have come into our home recently :'(
