Harvey

In my frequent trips to various doctors over the last month, I also decided to go to the dentist…after not having seen one in…a while. And I also plan to see the eye doctor in the near future.

Now, before I continue with my story:

In 2005 or 2006, I had some minor mouth surgery in my lower gums. What happened was that there were 2 small (calcium deposits? teeth?) in my lower gum, just underneath some of my teeth. They seemed to grow out of nothing because x-rays from a couple years earlier didn’t identify them at all. The dentists there had never seen anything like it. I went to an oral surgeon and he was also a bit baffled. It was rare. He wasn’t completely sure what they were, they were like…extra teeth. Weird.

Anyways, I had those teeth surgically removed. The operation was about 1 hour and they put me under. I remember asking the nurse what I was breathing in (the gas that knocked me out) and she listed about 5-10 things in the gas before I passed out. I remember shortly after, opening my eyes groggily. I remember the pain was pretty minimal…I was healed within 3 days with no facial disfigurement (I was worried that might happen actually…).

Now, getting back to the present: in my last trip to the dentist, I had various X-Rays done and they found another one. I hadn’t gone to the dentist in like, 3-5 years or something. It was huge. In a different spot. Again, the dentists there had no idea was it was and I’ve been referred to someone else.

I didn’t take pictures of the X-rays but here’s a photoshopped version of an x-ray of teeth that I recently found

See that ball in the lower left area? That’s kinda what it looks like. Except less gross. Like, it’s not a cyst or a growth or something…it’s like, a tooth like-looking thing. Anyways, I’m going to see an expert and likely, have it removed. I don’t feel it at all…but it does appear to grow slightly so it may pose a problem in the future…?

So after I went to the dentist (which was the same day I got my Macbook!), Z and I were figuring out a name for it. We tend to do that with stuff. The only name I could come up with was “Toothy”. Yes, not very creative or inspired. Eventually, Z came up with Harvey Dent, a play on the Batman villain (which I appreciate), as well as the word “Dent” which is French for “Tooth”. Ahhh, now it comes together. So we agreed to call the tooth Harvey.

I’m not sure what’s going to happen with this Harvey but I’ll blog about it when/if anything changes. I can’t see or feel it AT ALL in my mouth, it’s probably a bit infront or behind my teeth (it’s hard to tell that based on the X-ray). In a way, I feel like a mother, having a c-section on a 4-year old baby…named Harvey. Except….you know, it’s not the same. No, not the same at all.

/off to play with my Mac a bit more!

You should leave out the facial disfigurement part in the future. It’s a good excuse as to why you look so funny.

Harvey Dent is a great name. He also sounds like a cool dude. Will you ask him if he wants to hang out with me for a bit this weekend?

You know it could be caused by radiation… maybe you should give me your MacBook. I hear they make a lot of that stuff.

OH! On the plus side to this WHOLE thing. You’re kinda like a shark. Growing all sorts of extra teeth. That’s a plus for when the nuclear apocalypse hits and we’re plunged in to a world with mutants and pip boys and stuff. We could gang up. I have a pretty good bottle cap collection AND I’m a really good marksman.

For every day your PS3 is broken, your skills in the Zombie Apocalypse/Hell on Earth/FPS skills deteriorate. Meanwhile, I remain highly skilled in driving, as well as 3rd person shooting…which will come in handy when I’m given a robot to fight the zombies, mutants, pip boys, and other things. We could team up but most likely, I’d knock you out in your sleep and use your carcass to barter with the enemy. I’m sure all that beer has made you extra tasty.
