My Food Chart

Sunday, March 6th, 2011 at 6:07 pm

I kept going back to my last post all weekend because it had my “list of things to do”…but as the food I eat kept staring me in the face, I decided to do some analysis on it.

Now, I couldn’t get accurate nutritional information for some of the things I eat, such as the Chicken Salad or the Salmon stuff….but I decided to analyze what I could, compare everything….and measure everything relatively (per 100g). It’s kinda inaccurate because you wouldn’t eat, say, 25 Triscuits or 3 All-Bran Bars…or would you? I believe I’ve been known to do the latter -_-;

I’m really surprised at how the Large Turkey Sub does. On initial reaction, you think “575 calories?!” but when you break it down and compare it to these other things I eat, it’s actually really small in comparison.

Also, just on a whim, I added in some of the unhealthy stuff I used to eat

MRI

Saturday, March 5th, 2011 at 3:22 am

I’ve been keeping this a secret…not to…bring about suspicion or worry…or attention or pity.

A month ago, I went to the doctor for Problem A. While problem A has since been resolved, they have identified problems B and C.
This is why last month was so stressful…I went in for Problem A but that was like, nothing compared to B and C…well, let’s just say C. B may/may not be anything.

So anyways, with this problem C, they’re still trying to identify what it is. A couple of weeks ago, I signed up for an MRI (on a Thursday). The following Wednesday, I had the MRI….a 6 day wait for an MRI is pretty unprecedented. I read that in BC, people wait 8-18 months for an MRI. I got mine is 6 days. I’m so thankful for such speedy results. It did worry me that such a rush MRI was due to a major health concern…but FYI – the MRI results came back and…well, the docs still not sure what I have but it looks to be benign or…non-threatening, which is a good thing.

The MRI was an interesting experience…my appointment was at 7:45am so I was waking up at 5:45am that day -_-; They hooked me up to an IV…and I went into the MRI machine. Just like in House! :D You know the sound the washing machine makes if it’s muffled (by a door or something?), that’s the sound the MRI made for the 45m-1hour I was in there. There were beeps and stuff and they told me to take big breaths, and hold them while they did…stuff. I’m not claustrophobic at all but it was…not very comfortable to not really be able to move for 45 minutes. To open your eyes and see the exact same thing…about 15 cm away from your face. I almost fell asleep twice inside the MRI but I wasn’t able to because they kept instructing me to breath normally or hold my breath. When I came out of the MRI, I was so groggy…I wouldn’t mind sleeping in an MRI…except that you can’t lift your head that far. I imagine it’s pretty similar to a coffin…but hopefully by the time I’m in a coffin, I’ll be…y’know, dead. And I won’t have to worry about such trivialities!

On a side note, I’ve been eating much better since the news of Problem B and C. While they told me to eat better, I’m going a bit to an extreme, I haven’t had beef in weeks and I haven’t really eaten anything fried in weeks. Well…I tried my best not to eat anything fried.

The food I’ve eaten within the last two weeks primarily consist of only these items
Low Fat Double Berry Muffin from Tim Hortons
Extra Large Steeped tea w/ 1 Milk + 2 Splenda from Tim Hortons
Large Chicken Salad (Chicken + Salad + Parmesan cheese) w/ Italian Dressing from the grocery store
Salmon sashimi/Salmon roll/Salmon Teriyaki w/ Rice
Large Turkey Breast sub on Whole Wheat w/ Veggies, Pepper and Mustard from Subway
40% Less Fat Triscuits
Kellogg’s All-Bran Bars
Activia Probiotic Yogurt
Coke Zero

Granted, I’ve cut some corners…had Fish and Chips (not really by choice)…but to my knowledge, my intake of unhealthy foods has been pretty minor since lately.

Let’s face it, I’ve eaten unhealthy for many, many years and it really took a good scare to straighten me out. I mean, I let the unhealthiness ride for as long as I could/as long as it did. It was a good ride but it’s over. Maximize the good eating and when things are better, take some liberties with my food here and there. When things are better. That’s my plan at least.

And yeah, also learning about Harvey and possible mouth surgery…I’ve had doctor appointments like, 1-3 times per week every week, it’s really been interfering with my work.

Anyways, after a month, things are better. I don’t have problem A, I never felt anything wrong with problem B and C so I feel…normal. I’m starting to de-stress. It feels nice. I still have dentist appointments and doctor appointments, specialists, oral surgeons (for Harvey) to deal with though. Looks like it’ll be a while before things settle down back to normal.

/off to sleep :D I think I’m out of blog topics for now…I’m trying not to blog more than once per day so I had this MRI post and Harvey post “saved” since Feb (cuz my 1st is the accomplishments post and my 2nd is my monthly WTB post).

This weekend I have 3 main goals + a few others:
1. Start study ASP.NET 4.0
2. Play Zelda: Ocarina of Time
3. Do some ASP development (for work)
4. Back up the irreplaceable items (like pictures) somewhere
5. Put my music onto the Macbook Pro, along with iTunes…and maybe my Photoshp stuff

Harvey

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 at 11:37 pm

In my frequent trips to various doctors over the last month, I also decided to go to the dentist…after not having seen one in…a while. And I also plan to see the eye doctor in the near future.

Now, before I continue with my story:

In 2005 or 2006, I had some minor mouth surgery in my lower gums. What happened was that there were 2 small (calcium deposits? teeth?) in my lower gum, just underneath some of my teeth. They seemed to grow out of nothing because x-rays from a couple years earlier didn’t identify them at all. The dentists there had never seen anything like it. I went to an oral surgeon and he was also a bit baffled. It was rare. He wasn’t completely sure what they were, they were like…extra teeth. Weird.

Anyways, I had those teeth surgically removed. The operation was about 1 hour and they put me under. I remember asking the nurse what I was breathing in (the gas that knocked me out) and she listed about 5-10 things in the gas before I passed out. I remember shortly after, opening my eyes groggily. I remember the pain was pretty minimal…I was healed within 3 days with no facial disfigurement (I was worried that might happen actually…).

Now, getting back to the present: in my last trip to the dentist, I had various X-Rays done and they found another one. I hadn’t gone to the dentist in like, 3-5 years or something. It was huge. In a different spot. Again, the dentists there had no idea was it was and I’ve been referred to someone else.

I didn’t take pictures of the X-rays but here’s a photoshopped version of an x-ray of teeth that I recently found

See that ball in the lower left area? That’s kinda what it looks like. Except less gross. Like, it’s not a cyst or a growth or something…it’s like, a tooth like-looking thing. Anyways, I’m going to see an expert and likely, have it removed. I don’t feel it at all…but it does appear to grow slightly so it may pose a problem in the future…?

So after I went to the dentist (which was the same day I got my Macbook!), Z and I were figuring out a name for it. We tend to do that with stuff. The only name I could come up with was “Toothy”. Yes, not very creative or inspired. Eventually, Z came up with Harvey Dent, a play on the Batman villain (which I appreciate), as well as the word “Dent” which is French for “Tooth”. Ahhh, now it comes together. So we agreed to call the tooth Harvey.

I’m not sure what’s going to happen with this Harvey but I’ll blog about it when/if anything changes. I can’t see or feel it AT ALL in my mouth, it’s probably a bit infront or behind my teeth (it’s hard to tell that based on the X-ray). In a way, I feel like a mother, having a c-section on a 4-year old baby…named Harvey. Except….you know, it’s not the same. No, not the same at all.

/off to play with my Mac a bit more!
