PHP > ASP.NET? + SWFObject + Google Javascript Libraries API

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 at 9:15 pm

Actually…I’m not entirely convinced of the above statement (PHP > ASP.NET). I just know that within the last week, I was building something in ASP.NET. Today I was building something in PHP. Both were simple CRUDs…actually, more like C(reate) R(etrieve) U(pdate)s…(btw, the D(elete) is the last one). And PHP was so much easier to develop in, a bit harder to debug (my errors consisted of: Parse error on line: #) but….everything is just so much faster and simpler!

Even with drag and drop controls, Visual Studio design view, etc…I found it more fun and easier to develop in PHP.

Anyways, it was good to develop in both and stay away from ASP Classic.

I developed some good PHP today, finished what I needed to do. Back to my .NET project!

Man…I walked home today and thought of 2 other things to blog about but I can’t remember them now that I’m at home >:( I’ve got some defective RAM and the only ROM I came across was the Royal Ontario Museum.

OMG i just spent like, 20 minutes putting that button in…the reason was that this google page:
http://code.google.com/apis/libraries/devguide.html#swfobject has some code,
load request: google.load(“swfobject, 2.2″);
but they forgot 2 quotes, it should be
load request: google.load(“swfobject”, “2.2”); !

DAMN YOU GOOGLE! HELP ME OUT AND FRUSTRATE ME AT THE SAME TIME ! If you weren’t the best (minus Wave and Talk), I’d hate you! But no…I (would) still love (to work for) you.

/malnourished. will develop for food.

More to come…I promise! + Prince of Tennis

I’ve been busy with life lately and more recently, sickness and a .NET project. It’s taking up most/all my time. I promise to get out of my rut and post about Taste of Danforth, Jersey Boys, and <insert things that I’ve been busy with but don’t remember>. Most of my effort is going towards this .NET project which I now realize, I’m wayyyyyyyyyy ahead of schedule. All it took was one good day/night of coding. Any extra effort is just chilling…

I’ve been rewatching a lot of Prince of Tennis lately while I eat…I used to rewatch my favorite matches, Fuji Syusuke VS Kirihara Akaya, Echizen Ryoma VS Atobe Keigo, Kevin Smith, Seiichi Yukimura, Genichiro Sanada…and other random matches. This time around though, I’m rewatching the lesser remembered matches….Inui Sadahara VS Renji Yanagi…um…what’s his face and…that other guy….yeah.

I also got the PS2JAP The Prince of Tennis: Smash Hit! 2 which is certainly no Virtua Tennis 3….but it’s crazy fun being able to do special moves. Yuuta Syusuke’s Twist Spin Shot is like, impossible to return. And Fuji Syusuke keeps Higmua Ootoshi’ng my smashes! Jerkface!

/more to come :D

Finally, a .NET project!

Friday, August 6th, 2010 at 5:11 pm

I’m excited! I’m putting my textbook knowledge to good use on a project that could be built in ASP Classic VB…but I thought I’d finally step out of my comfort zone and attempt something harder.

I’m excited, not only am I using .NET, I’m also learning about this Google Bar Chart API which lets me create an image like this:

Out of code like this:
<img src=”http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=bhg&agent=jgcharts&chs=340×240&chxt=x,y&chf=bg,s,F3F3F3&chd=t:16.7,16.7,0,66.6&chbh=a,0,35&chds=0,100&chxr=0,0,100&chxl=1:|1.25%20%%20-%203.50%20%|%3E3.50%20%%20-%205.75%20%|%3E5.75%20%%20-%208.00%20%|%3E8.00%20%%20-%2010.25%20%&chco=0079C1&chm=t16.7%,000000,0,0,13|t16.7%,000000,0,1,13|t0%,000000,0,2,13|t66.6%,FFFFFF,0,3,13″>

I have plans to go to Taste of the Danforth today and Jersey Boys tomorrow…but in the meantime, I hope to be coding. I just know I’m gonna think about this project during these 2 events…it’s gonna pop into my head and my mind is gonna wander, thinking about solutions to the problem.

Excited! I <3 projects that motivate me. Especially when they’re work projects because I know I can’t not do it…I know my laziness, ADD, never finishing attitude won’t come into play here…because that sort of Warren only shows up during personal projects, not for work projects. /can’t wait to go home and code :D

Heat. B.O. Deodorant. Hygiene.

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010 at 8:43 pm

This weather sucks. I hate the summer. It’s brutally hot. Too hot to do anything. I remember trying to study for exams in Waterloo w/o AC. I’d crash at my friends’ place in Mackenzie King rather than sleep in my own bed at V1. I always did slightly worse in spring terms…the heat just makes me…not wanna do anything.

Not much has changed at this point…I hate the summer. Specifically, I hate the heat. I like the longer hours of daylight, waking up to the sun. But heat makes me miserable. You know what also sucks? People that get hot…and don’t wear deodorant. And then they stink. You know what sucks? Walking behind someone and smelling their B.O.
Smelling a stranger’s odor. Ugh.

We nerds are known for it. Cons are full of big guys. And sometimes that’s okay. But sometimes they’re full of big guys…who are just…dirty. Their hair is long, unkept, and it looks like they haven’t showered in months. Or they’re huge, sweaty, and terribly stinky. Or they’re alright…until they open their mouths and you can smell that “morning breath”…but you know it’s not their morning breath, it’s their every day 24/7 breath.

I, and I hate to admit it, have a friend who doesn’t bathe like…ever. Or brush his teeth. Ever. I can’t sit beside him because he stinks. I can’t talk to him because his breath will melt my face. And…he wonders why he’s striking out with the opposite sex. It boggles my mind.

I’m fortunate. Besides that guy, I’ve been blessed with friends who are cool as well as intelligent. I’d hate to think what would happen to me if I grew up a social outcast. I’d be that which I despise. *shudder*

/it’s hot. but not in my condo :D life is good…

…4 days later.

Lists help. I kept coming back to my previous post to look at what I had to do…it kept me organized….
What I dislike about lists is that looking at them gives me stress…I feel this…need/urge to complete them. Good for work. Bad for home. Anyways, I’ll just summarize my last 4 days, since writing the list. After that, I’ll study some more ASP.NET….

What I did these last 4 days:
-had family lunch and dinner on Saturday
-Toronto Zoo for 5 hours on Monday
-Ontario Science Centre for 5 hours on Tuesday
-finished reading Scott Pilgrim
-cleaned Hamster cage
-studied ASP.NET
-caught up on 6 episodes of True Blood, 1 episode of Hell’s Kitchen, 2 episodes of Futurama
-laundry
-decide which of my two EPIC SITE ideas to pursue…

What I still need to do
-design new layout for warrenshea.com…like…NOW.
-contact me web form (which shouldn’t take too long)
-start planning/designing EPIC SITE…
-watch Despicable Me, Kick-Ass (again), Once, Shutter Island, Remember Me (…which only got 28~% on RT…)
-secret project (not the epic site…even more secret!)
-update To Buy list…for comic-con
-take more photographs/galleries – Yoshi, Scarlet Witch, Psylocke, Kakashi, Scheris, Cagalli, Lunamaria, Catwoman, Yuna, Full Metal Panic! characters…
-start reading One Piece manga
-start playing Zelda: Ocarina of time again
-watch Transformers DVDs I recently purchased
-watch EXTRAs to DVDs – Battlestar Galactica, Seinfeld, Friends, Transformers
-wear retainer…to fix my teeth…cuz they’re not looking so hot
