It’s been almost a month since my last blog post (excluding the last two) and there’s a reason for that – I’m as busy as I’ve ever been.
Work’s been overwhelming and while I’m good at managing the overwhelming workload, it gets tiring day in and day out. The way I look at it though is – I’ll never be this busy in my professional career ever again so to do well in this situation will prove that I can do anything. There’s a big “if” there in that, “I’ll never be this busy in a professional career again” – that might not be true. I’m managing 23 people at the moment. 23! I’m about 4x the next biggest team. Something’s gotta be said about that feat!
We’re also doing two new initiatives – one may be the biggest work initiative of my career. The other, a significant change in the working methodology that I’ve been using my entire professional career. So there’s that. To shed some light on the latter – ‘waterfall to agile’.
In my personal life, I’d been planning a bachelor party as well. It was both fun, and difficult. I definitely took a back seat to planning in the initial involvement but when plans fell through, I took the driver’s seat the second time around which was nice and slightly out of character for me – as professional warren has always been considerably different from personal warren. But I noticed that, once I attacked this personal problem like a professional, it all came together quite easily. Nice to realize my professional skills are affecting my personal life. Equally so, my professional social skills have significantly changed my personal skills to.
I stayed late at work twice this week and did some really good catching up. A few more nights of really working hard and I’ll be in a much better place. Life’s been hard but it’s been going well, despite the difficulty. I’d like to take a break but it looks like it’s gonna be pretty busy for at least another 6 months. Bleh. I need a break!
