Warren’s Humor…

…gets it’s own category.

One
Z: I need to go to the grocery store
W: Why?
Z: I need to get some thyme.
W: …maybe we should have left earlier.

Two
Greece VS Argentia playing soccer
W: Is that Greece playing?
Z: Yeah
W: …Where’s John Travolta?

Three
“Walter White and Jesse Pinkman have good chemistry together”

This certainly sucks.

I’m miserable. Absolutely hating my life right now. I’ve always kept a pretty…happy life, it’s simple because I make it simple. For reasons outside of my control, I’ve been pretty down the last few weeks. Down, depressed, angry, frustrated…all these negative emotions. It sure is teh suck.

I know what I have to do to get out of this feeling and I’m taking steps to recover. Still, I don’t know how long it will be until all is well again. Everyday I’m stressed, everyday I have thoughts that make me angry, frustrated…oh, the drama I don’t need or want.

The glass is half empty my friends…I can’t really seem to blog about anything anymore because my mind is so focused on this one thing that I can’t really talk about here. 50% of my thoughts every day lately are focused on this one thing, I have no…extra brain capacity (yikes, that sounds terrible) to think about other stuff.

It sucks, and no amount of cute hamsters can fix this. Boourns I say, boourns.

/wrists. both of them. seriously this time.

A Taste of Little Italy

Saturday, June 19th, 2010 at 1:30 am

Went to “A Taste of Little Italy” Friday afternoon/evening. Had some nice small dishes, tried new things, listened to some music and a happy atmosphere, it was nice. Z and I were on our feet for a good 3-4 hours…it was painful. Here are some of the things we tried…

Lamb skewers. Man…these were SOOOOooo good. We waited in line for like, 10 minutes…I wish we bought 9 instead of 3. My favorite item there. $4.00 for 3.

Some nice Ribs and coleslaw? The sauce on the ribs was a bit hot for me. $5.

Some kind of dessert…the filling isn’t whipped cream or ice cream…I dunno what it was..but it had raisins in it. $2.50

Popcorn. Cuz I like popcorn. $1.

Mini Ice Creams. Cookies and cream flavour, $1 each.

We also got some lemonade, penne pasta ($5). Spring Rolls.

I got this cardboard bus from the TTC booth. I had 2 minutes of fun folding the bus and 3 minutes of fun doing the Photoshop.

Site updates + WordPress

I’ve spent the last couple of nights formatting my code so that if you view source (go on, do it!), it’s DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict as well as formatted (space) precisely to my standards. It sounds easy right? if things don’t align up, press spacebar in the code a couple time until it aligns it. But…it’s actually not that easy because the blog portion as well as the RSS is generated by WordPress and doesn’t care about the formatting at all. What does that mean? Going deep into the WordPress code and figuring it out. Well, figuring it out enough to change it. It’s purely cosmetic but in diving into the code, I was able to remove some “additions” that I felt were in question.

1. WordPress, by default, wraps everything in <p> tags…which I hate. Paragraph tags add extra space, unless you change the standard tag’s CSS. But for someone who likes full control (and who doesn’t have it), these tags suck. I’m much more accustomed to using <br />. Controlling exactly how to space content. Anyways, WordPress adds paragraph tags around everything so I had to replace that with the appropriate amount of <br />s.

2. WordPress also strips <br />s. Which sucks because just say I wanted to do something like this
FAKE SPOILER ALERT

Joking!
I couldn’t! It wouldn’t allow those spaces, it would look like this:
FAKE SPOILER ALERT

Joking!
Despite how many <br />s I threw between the text. Ridiculous eh? Anyways…I had to go into the code and fix that.

3. WordPress also, by default, replaces three consecutive periods with … so that … = …
The problem is that someone like me, who chooses a # mod 3 != 0 will result in 4 dots becoming …. or 5 becoming …..
Hideous I say! I don’t quite understand the purpose of replacing the periods…but yeah, that had to go. I was changing my … ‘s so that they would mod 3 == 0. But it was annoying.
I couldn’t write things like “uh……………..” without having to post and go back and edit/remove the dots. Because let’s face it, with OCD, this: …. and ….. was unacceptable!

4. WordPress keeps widgets together. So the RSS Feed that I had…it was all grouped into ONE section before. I had to go into the code…find out how the RSS was being written and throw in some if statements to display other headers. The result is on the right (notice the RSS feeds are now sectioned off into groups rather than in one “RSS” Category) ——->

5. I also changed the standard WordPress UI. In the image below, the left side is the original WordPress UI. If I had say, 10 RSS feeds, the CMS wouldn’t show any descriptive titles. If I wanted to edit a particular RSS, I would have to play the counting game or the “click edit and trial and error” game. Ridiculous! I changed the WordPress UI to show at least some form of descriptive title…So if I wanted to edit a particular RSS feed’s information, say #10, I can click on the one I want and not have to guess or look at the Edit’s link. Also, I was able to throw my particular headers into the WordPress UI as well! The WordPress UI, thanks to my tinkering, now mimics my site exactly.

True Blood

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 at 1:06 am

So, I’ve been catching up on True Blood lately (after catching up on House, Breaking Bad and Burn Notice). I’m at the start of season 3 as I write this…only 6 minutes in. I’ll continue to watch after I finish this post.

Season 1 was pretty interesting…the whole thing kind of a mystery. I wasn’t a fan of the killer though, I don’t really like when the killer is the secondary cast and there are no leads to them. What’s the point in trying to figure it out. I know they tried to make it look like Sam…I guess that woulda been too obvious. But you know…he’s a shape shifter…so that was unexpected (obviously!).

I thought season 2 was better…I really liked the Jason Stackhouse and the Fellowship of the Sun storyline…and how that merged with Sookie’s storyline at one point which led to the arrival of one of my favorite characters of the series thus far, Godric. While he only existed for a couple episodes, I loved the fact that he looked young but conveyed such an overwhelming presence and power. I really liked that Eric, who (looked) much older and larger, was his loyal subordinate.

The whole Maryann Forrester storyline was….I dunno, I thought it should have been secondary to the other stuff. Now I know what my co-workers meant when they said season 2 is like an orgy or a pr0no. Honestly, that pretty much describes some scenes. Still, I thought most of that storyline was rather weak and stupid.

I guess I enjoy the vampires and the vampire culture they’ve established over the course of their existence more than anything else. I like how they make references to humans being impatient, possibly because their lifespan is so insignificantly short. It kinda makes me wonder why there’s so much drama with the vampires. If you have eternity…wouldn’t you be ultra lazy? “I don’t feel like reading this book right now, I’ll read it next decade”. Anyways, I really enjoy seeing other vampires…The Magister, Godric, Sophie-Anne (the vampire queen of Louisiana). I find them, and the hierarchy interesting. I dislike the term “sheriff” though, makes me think about western. And I am not a fan of westerns.

While True Blood is generally about vampires, it’s more accurate to say that it focuses on a supernatural world. There are vampires, shape-shifters, telepaths, strange old horny gods…it’s not at all just about vampires.

I gotta say, I’m totally not a fan of Bill Compton. I know he’s dead but his skin is always strangely pale and his skin looks ultra old. You can be pale and still look kool (see: Godric, Eric)…and not old and weak.

Music’s interesting…the intro song has grown on me. Kind of sick of that violin solo whenever there’s a vampire deal going on.

Anyways…back to season 3. This show is good…it got better. It’s still no Breaking Bad tho :D I wonder what I should watch next…

Caprica
Modern Family
Supernatural
Lost
Fringe
24
Top Gear
Deadliest Warrior
Wolverine & the X-Men
Chuck
Sarah Connor Chronicles
Operation Repo
Nip/Tuck

Suggestions? I’m leaning towards Modern Family and Caprica….
